COLONEL SCHUMACHER, U.S. ARMY (RET)

In Vietnam, then Captain Schumacher, initially took command of a Mobile Advisory Team
(MAT) and was subsequently promoted to District Senior Advisor. During his entire time in
Vietnam, he lived in local villages and hamlets. He was responsible for coordination of all
combat operations, infrastructure developments, agricultural, economic, and political
initiatives. He directed two U.S. Army MAT teams, a District Team, and advice and assistance
to a Phoenix Operations team.

As the District Senior Advisor in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, he provided advice,
synchronization, and coordination of District wide combat operations for three RVN Regional Force
companies, fourteen RVN Popular Force Platoons, a U.S. Special Forces ODA, and a Battalion from
Republic of Korea White Horse Division. His District consisted of fourteen villages, thirty-four
hamlets, 200 square miles, and roughly a 1ook Rural Vietnamese people.

During Operation Desert Storm, he commanded a select team of soldiers working with scientists
from Stanford Research Institute on the development and deployment of biological detection
systems. Colonel Schumacher has met with many Congressional representatives urging them to
investigate potential causes of Gulf War Syndrome.

MILITARY ANALYST

Schumacher laid out his perspective in the postscript to his book A Bloody Business.
In summary he said about the Iraqi people, If you are not related by family,
religion, sect, or tribe, you damn well had better be the highest bidder.
There is no sense of nationalism. He asserted that the only likely benefactor
of the conflict would be the Kurds...

Gerald has authored To Be a U.S. Army Green Beret, and A Bloody Business:
America’s War Zone Contractors & the Occupation of Iraq, Zenith Press. His current
book on the U.S. Border Patrol is titled, Holding the Line. It illuminates a battlefield that
is largely covered up and far worse than most Americans could know.

Schumacher has completed hundreds of commercial photography assignments and his images have
appeared around the world. His editorial and photojournalism images have been published on book
covers, in magazines, and on the front page of national newspapers. His clients include Chevron

Gerald Schumacher is a retired U.S. Army officer, having served many years with the Army’s elite Special Forces, commonly referred to as the Green Berets. He is now a published author and military analyst.

Gerald Schumacher’s published works include his hard cover book on Private Military Contractors and his illustrated book on what it takes to become a Green Beret.
